FAQ's and Myths about JROTC
Myth:
When you join JROTC all the guys need to shave their heads bald.
Fact: For uniform days, a guy’s hair may not touch the top the jacket collar and it must allow for the use of headgear (your hat). If your hair follows these stipulations, you’re fine.
Myth: If you mess-up in class, you have to do push-ups.
Fact: Push-ups are
not used as a form of punishment and will only be asked of you
during Physical Training (PT) which we have every Thursday after
the Veteran’s Parade.
Myth:
You have to join ROTC in College, because you participated in high
school.
Fact: Some of our
cadets may want to pursue ROTC in college and others don’t.
Joining JROTC does not
mean you have to do ROTC in college.
Myth:
Similar to the previous myth, joining JROTC means you have to join
the army after high school.
Fact: Not everyone
in JROTC desires a military career.
We do have a few cadets that enlist right after high school,
but we have many others that don’t.
The mission of JROTC is to promote people to be better
citizens not join the
army.
Myth: All the delinquent kids end-up in JROTC because they don’t have structure in their lives.
Fact: Our battalion is made up of kids from every part of the school; we have athletes, scholars, band members, drama performers, and many others. There is too broad a spectrum of cadets to name all the different groups they belong to. Our battalion is strong because we have so many different kinds of people.
